How often do I need to recertify to maintain my QME status with proof of continuing education earned?

As per Labor Code Section 139.2, a QME needs proof of having earned 12 credits of DWC certified continuing education credit every 24 months. This can be done anytime over the course of the prior 24 months since last recertified, including taking all 12 credits in the last 2 days prior to the due date (although this isn’t recommended for your mental health!) You will receive a notice from the DWC Medical Unit approximately 60 days prior to your due date, however, it is best not to count on this method. ELP sends reminders to our longtime clients at approximately 60 and 30 days prior to the due date.

How many credits am I allowed to obtain through you?

You are allowed to get all of your QME continuing education credit through our program. We are DWC certified for all of our articles/exams. In some instances, if a physician is overdue with his or her certification and needs 24 credits, you are allowed to obtain all 24 credits through our program.

Can I find out which questions I missed on the tests?

You will certainly be notified (via a personal phone call) if you haven’t passed a test and will be able to retake that test free of charge. We will also provide you with the exact questions you missed. If you have passed the test, we do not send copies of your answer sheets.

How do I contact someone at the DWC to find out about my status?

Call Diana Cornell at 1-800-794-6900 x 2020 or you can reach her by email at dcornell@dir.ca.gov. Many questions can be answered by either Dana or Chris. Feel free to call us with any of your questions and if we cannot answer them, we will do the best to direct you to the proper resource.

Will I get a receipt indicating that you’ve received my answer sheets via fax?
Can I get a receipt for my order?
Can I get my order filled just as fast if I order online as if I order by phone or any other method?

Is it best to fax, email or mail my answer sheets?

Our office can handle your QME exam answer sheets via fax, email or mail. Fax and email is the quickest, of course. To expedite the certification process it is always best to fax or email all the completed answer sheets TOGETHER.
^Top of Section

Will I get a receipt indicating that you’ve received my answer sheets via fax?

We do not send fax receipt confirmation. You should expect your certificate via FAX within a week or two. If you’ve indicated that you have a tight deadline, you should receive your actual certification of completion or notice of “not pass” within 2-3 days of submitting your answer sheets. Certificates are sent via FAX, email OR mail, whichever you choose.
^Top of Section

Can I get a receipt for my order?

Yes. If you’ve submitted your order online, you will receive a payment confirmation via email from our payment processor. If you’ve submitted via email, fax or mail, you can email Chris Elliott or give her a call 760.944.6769 to receive your receipt or for any other billing or account information.

Deadlines/Turn-around

How long does it take for me to receive my certificate of completion, once I’ve sent over the QME exam answer sheets?
Is it possible to obtain 12 credits within just a few days? I forgot about my deadline and am in a real hurry!
What if I’m late for my recertification? Are there penalties from the DWC?
^Top of Page

How long does it take for me to receive my certificate of completion, once I’ve sent over the QME exam answer sheets?

Typically, it takes 5-7 working days to receive your certificate of completion. However, if you specify that you have a deadline coming up by indicating this to us via online order form or fax order form and we will do our best to accommodate that date.

Is it possible to obtain 12 credits within just a few days? I forgot about my deadline and am in a real hurry!

Yes, we can accommodate tight deadlines.
^Top of Section

What if I’m late for my recertification? Are there penalties from the DWC?

The answer to this question is best answered by the Department of Workers’ Compensation (DWC), however, we have been in this business for over 12 years and know that if you are a few days to a few weeks late with your recertification, you will not be penalized by the DWC. However, you may face being taken off the QME panel list until you send your forms to the DWC. If you are more than 2 years overdue, you must call the DWC to determine whether you need to take 24 credits to “catch up” or actually retake the QME examination (oh no!)
^Top of Section

Can I get my order filled just as fast if I order online as if I order by phone or any other method?

Yes. We are able to accommodate tight deadlines with both online ordering as well as orders placed over the telephone. Please remember to fill out the field on the form for deadline.

Errors/Corrections

I’ve lost my certificate of completion and/or packet of articles, can I get a copy?
What do I do if I receive a certificate that doesn’t show the right amount of credits?
How do I handle a complaint?
^Top of Page

I’ve lost my certificate of completion and/or packet of articles, can I get a copy?

If you have ordered but misplaced any articles or your certificate of completion, we can fax/email or mail another copy. There may be a $25 administration fee for duplicates.
^Top of Section

What do I do if I receive a certificate that doesn’t show the right amount of credits?

Since you will be notified of “not pass” by phone and you retake and resubmit the exam, the certificate should show all of your credits. Therefore, if you get a certificate without all of the tests represented, it most likely means that we did not receive one or more of your answer sheets. Simply review your certificate listing the titles and article numbers that you’ve received credit for and resubmit just the one(s) not represented on the certificate along with a note indicating it is a resubmittal and we will issue an additional certificate to you for the additional credits, provided you pass the test(s).
